"Nikolaus immigrated in May [September] 1841 with his parents and siblings.
"Nikolaus purchased land on Pratt Rd. southwest of Westphalia, Clinton, Michigan which was later purchased by his son, John. Several years later, he purchased land on Grange Rd. south of Westphalia which was later owned by his son, Michael, and his great grandsons, Joe and Arnie Pohl. Nikolaus raised a variety of crops and raised several different types of farm animals.
"Nikolaus used to attend daily mass in Westphalia by walking from his farm to town and back. Later in life, he moved into the village of Westphalia."
