"Joseph herded cattle to market in Detroit from the Westphalia, Clinton, Michigan area. It is believed that for some time after his marriage to Louise Brotsche, the family lived in the Westphalia area at the home of Joseph's cousin, Joseph Platte, while he was in Colorado. By the time of the 1900 Census, the family was living at 138 Benton St. in Detroit, Michigan."
