Robert Paul Salchli, 84, a native and long time resident of Erie, died Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at the Sarah Todd Memorial Home in Carlisle, Pa. Robert was born March 1, 1923 in Erie the son of the late Carl and Mary Twohig Salchli. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Weber Salchli and son Robert Carl Salchli. Robert is survived by two daughters; Jean Faber and her husband Dr. Lee Faber of Toledo Ohio and Jan Gallagher of Mechanicsburg, Pa. Also surviving are his grandson and his family, Tug and Tasha Gallagher and great-grandsons Brendan and Colin of Morgantown, Pa.; his granddaughter and her family, Meg and John Smith and grandsons Nathan and Patrick of Boiling Springs, Pa., as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Robert was a veteran of WWII having served with the US Army in the Pacific Theatre during the occupation of Saipan and was awarded the Bronze Star. He attended Staunton Military Academy and was a 1947 graduate of Gannon University. He was employed for 43 years by the Erie Dry Goods Company-Boston Store and the Joseph Horne Co. Robert and his late wife were founding members of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church where he was an usher for more than 40 years and served on the parish Family Guild. Robert was a past member of the Erie Chamber of Commerce and the Erie Rotary Club and was a lifelong member of the Maennerchor Club. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Erie chapters of the American Red Cross and Cancer Societies and the National Alumni Association of Gannon University. As a member of the St. Vincent Hospital Auxiliary, he was elected the first male president of that organization, an honor of which he was quite proud. He also served as a volunteer for the Erie Blind Center and Stairways Behavioral Health. Friends are invited to call at the<B> </B>John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Jude Catholic Church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Erie chapter of the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, Erie Center for the Blind, St. Vincent Hospital Auxiliary, or Stairways Behavioral Health. Jean M. Salchli Former Erie Times Society Editor Jean M. (Weber) Salchli, age 80, died Monday August 15, 2005 at her residence in the Sarah Reed Retirement Center. She was born January 18, 1925 in Erie the daughter of the late Eugene and Henrietta Buerrer Weber. Jean was an original member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church and was a longtime volunteer at the Erie Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Meals on Wheels program. She was a member of the “Women’s Tuesday Morning Golf League” at Brabender’ s South Woods Golf Course. Besides her parents, Jean was preceded in death by a son Rob C. Salchli; a sister Henriette “Sis” Weber and three brothers; Joseph A., Robert E. and Herman C. Weber. She is survived by her husband Robert P. Salchli of 59 years along with twin daughters; Jean Faber and her husband Dr. Lee Faber of Toledo, Ohio and Janis Gallagher of Mechanicsburg, Pa. A sister, Ruth Hanhauser of Erie and two grandchildren; Brian Gallagher of Morgantown, Pa. and Megan Smith of Boiling Springs, Pa. She is the great-grandmother of Brendan Gallagher and Nathan Smith and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th and Liberty St. Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Jude Catholic Church. Private burial will be Friday in Calvary Cemetery.
