Diane Kaye Schafer
November 11, 1949 - September 14, 2022

Born on November 11, 1949, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer and kidney disease. Diane retired from the State of Michigan, Family Independence Agency, after 31 years of service. Diane was an avid bridge player with the Bridge Center of Greater Lansing and very proudly claims the title of “Gold Life Master” in duplicate bridge. She loved to mentor new bridge players and has done so for twenty plus years. Another very strong passion of hers was genealogy, where she spent many hours at the library, cemeteries and on her computer researching. She published a Droste Book as the direct descendent of Johan Theodore Droste and Theresa Knape. Diane shared many files with others sharing her passion. Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Leon F. and Burlene R. Schafer; brother, David K. Schafer; brother in law, Everett B. Deese, Jr. and nephew, Jason Deese. She is survived by her sister, Karen Deese; brothers, James (Janet) and Ken (Ann); sister in law, Carol Schafer and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will take place, Wednesday, September 21, 2022, 10:30 AM at St. Gerard Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Bob Bacik as celebrant. The family will receive relatives and friends, Tuesday, September 20, 2022, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Delta Chapel where a scripture reading will be held at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial Contributions can be made to The Bridge Center of Greater Lansing in memory of Diane.
