Urban A. "Gib" Simon, of Lansing Michigan

Urban A. "Gib" Simon, passed away on September 13th, 2008, at home surrounded by his loving wife of 57 years and his four children. He was born in Fowler, Michigan and married the prettiest girl in Westphalia, Ginny Rademacher. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, friend to multitudes, devout Catholic and avid golfer. He was known for his quick smile, mischievous blue eyes, sense of humor and for his love of pumpkin pie. He was very social, loved entertaining, and was known for his practical jokes. He loved his cottage that he appropriately named "Speil Haus" which in English means Party House, where he loved to fish and have family and friends up. He is irreplaceable and we will miss him terribly but are happy that he is up in heaven with our sister Carol Ann and the God he so loved.

He was the founder and owner of Simon Real Estate, later called Coldwell Banker Simon Real Estate for 46 years and a proud member of the Greater Lansing Association of Realtors. He loved sales and mentored many "on the likeability factor" and his work ethic. He was a licensed Broker and Appraiser and co-developer of a number of residential subdivisions. He achieved the designation from the National Association of Realtors of Realtor Emeritus. He was a 55-year member of the Knights of Columbus and 4th degree life member. He sat on the board of the Sales and Marketing Club of Lansing. He was awarded the Boss of the Year Award from the Lansing Jaycees. Served on the Lansing Board of Realtors Board of Directors for two terms and the Board of Governors and Membership Committee for the Lansing Country Club.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia (Rademacher) Simon, and four children, Mary (Kelly) Cahill, Kate (Tom) Alchin, Bruce (Julie) Simon, and Jim (Helen) Simon. Eleven grand children, Gabe (Amy), Nathan and Ben Cahill, Aaron (Larissa), Leah, Meagann, Andrea and Katie Alchin, Candice Simon, Kyle, Austin and Derek Simon; three great grandchildren, Aidan, Trace Urban and Micah Alchin; two sisters, Marcella (Joe) Schueller and Florence (Earl) Jenks. Proceeded in death by his daughter Carol Ann Simon, father Alfred Simon and mother Bernita Simon along with sister Monica (Louis) Thelen from Fowler.

Services will be held at St. Gerard Catholic Church 4437 W. Willow Hwy Wednesday, September 17, at 11:00AM. Visitation will be Monday 6-8PM, Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8PM with Vigil at 7:30PM at Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw.
