Thomas Russell Stewart:
Russell was killed in action at the battle of Argonne. Argonne is a wooded and hilly region of northeast France between the Meuse and Aisne rivers.
"Gen. Pershing makes his first major offensive in mid-September at Saint-Mihiel and forces the Germans to give up salients they have held since 1914. The Americans take 15,000 prisoners and the Allies push north and east in the battles of the Argonne Forest and Ypres from late September to mid-October, 1918."
