1937

A Michigan Rural Property Inventory, Works Progress Administration (WPA) inventory card (side 1) of the Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kiefer property, conducted in 1937, in Beal City, Michigan. This building was originally owned by Jacob P. Yuncker [00022] and Anna Margaret (Pohl) Yuncker [00023] who operated the post office and a shoe shop here. By 1937 it was apparently owned by their daughter Annie Laura (Yuncker) Keiffer and son-in-law Joseph Keiffer. Side 2 of the card is a blank form, since there was no associated farmland.

The two-story, ten-room, wood frame building was constructed in 1890 and remodeled in 1920. Its foundation was concrete and stone. The gable roof had wood shingles. The exterior walls were of wood siding. The interior was decorated and had hardwood floors, plaster walls and pine trim. Heat was provided by stoves burning wood and coal. It had gas rather than electric lights. Its condition was rated "fair." A separate one-car garage was also listed, but in "poor" condition.
