{"id":434,"date":"2012-01-29T16:33:18","date_gmt":"2012-01-29T22:33:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iseeancestors.com\/comm\/?p=434"},"modified":"2012-01-30T08:24:05","modified_gmt":"2012-01-30T14:24:05","slug":"heres-to-you-mom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iSeeAncestors.com\/comm\/2012\/01\/29\/heres-to-you-mom\/","title":{"rendered":"Here&#8217;s to You Mom"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_435\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-435\" style=\"width: 117px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-435 \" style=\"margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 5px;\" title=\"Ruth Voisin\" src=\"http:\/\/iseeancestors.com\/comm\/wp-content\/uploads\/00002-117x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"117\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iSeeAncestors.com\/comm\/wp-content\/uploads\/00002-117x150.jpg 117w, https:\/\/iSeeAncestors.com\/comm\/wp-content\/uploads\/00002-234x300.jpg 234w, https:\/\/iSeeAncestors.com\/comm\/wp-content\/uploads\/00002.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 117px) 85vw, 117px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-435\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ruth Voisin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It was twenty years ago today that my mother died suddenly.\u00a0 I often wish I could speak with her again.\u00a0 But time is healing my loss and it&#8217;s fun to reminisce every now and then.<\/p>\n<p>She collected old lithographs with a theme depicting a bluebird on a tree branch with a little girl gazing up, usually looking out a window.\u00a0 They reminded her of one by Bessie Pease Gutmann that her mother had.\u00a0 Of course this morning a couple bluebirds happened by my backyard.\u00a0 Every time I see one now I chuckle and think to myself it&#8217;s mom saying hi.<\/p>\n<p>Mom&#8217;s the one who got me interested in genealogy.\u00a0 She often said that I come from &#8220;good stock&#8221; and spoke of how strict and clean my German ancestors were.\u00a0 Even though my grandmother&#8217;s pantry had a dirt floor, it was always swept and &#8220;clean.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Not to get too mushy, but I keep in mind a star to represent loved ones who have died.\u00a0 That way, no matter how busy or preoccupied I am, I&#8217;m always reminded of them when I see that star at night.\u00a0 (It helps that I can identify dozens of stars and constellations.)<\/p>\n<p>Mom&#8217;s star is Sirius in Canis Major.\u00a0 She asked me one night on the balcony of a condo in which we were vacationing at Gulf Shores, Alabama, what that bright object was hovering over the ocean.\u00a0 I explained that it was Sirius, the brightest star in the sky, and that it even has a companion star that orbits it.<\/p>\n<p>So some time after she died I was looking up at Sirius and reminisced about that moment.\u00a0 To this day I am reminded of her when I see Sirius.\u00a0 Wouldn&#8217;t you know it, Sirius also crosses the meridian (it&#8217;s highest point in the sky) annually at about 10pm CST this day.\u00a0 So tonight when I walk the dog, I&#8217;ll look up to Sirius, the brightest jewel in the sky and say, &#8220;Here&#8217;s to you Mom!&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was twenty years ago today that my mother died suddenly.\u00a0 I often wish I could speak with her again.\u00a0 But time is healing my loss and it&#8217;s fun to reminisce every now and then.
